We’re excited to introduce Social Media and Account Manager Kayla Downey, who joined Colony Group in late March. She’s a welcome addition to our growing team and brings with her a wealth of experience in digital media and strategy roles. We sat down with Kayla (virtually) to find out a bit about her background and what drives her.
1. How did you choose this career path?
When I was younger, I had always wanted to be a journalist or an artist. I loved the concept of using your creativity every day and telling a story. I combined both of those passions and completed a university degree in content creation, advertising and digital marketing. This career path was the perfect fit for me as I’m now able to help companies share their story.
2. What was attractive to you about joining the Colony Group team?
At first, when I looked at Colony Group’s website, what had attracted me was the messaging behind the horse in the company logo. The quote ‘We notice, feel and understand our partners and react to ensure a winning result’ resonated deeply with me and I believe that is what makes a great company. As soon as I saw the job opening, I was quick to jump on the opportunity and have not looked back!
3. What are you working on at the Brisbane office?
My position at Colony Group is Social Media/Account Manager. I create social media campaigns as well as manage social media pages and ensure engagement levels are excellent while looking for improvements and new strategies.
4. What’s your favourite part of your job and career?
I love all things digital media and how it connects people. I’m grateful that I get to wake up every day and work on new and exciting ideas.
5. What do you do outside of work?
I spend most weekends working on my vegetable garden or having coffee with friends.
6. Favourite part about living in Brisbane?
I’m originally from the country but have always wanted a taste of the city life. Brisbane is so beautiful and clean; it has been a smooth transition.
7. What part of your job gets you the most excited?
I love how no day is the same, and everyone works so in sync together.
8. What’s your dream job (besides this one, ha!)?
When I’m old and grey I wouldn’t mind being a university lecturer, but we have a few decades till that happens!
9. Tell us something about you that no one would ever guess just by looking at you?
I grew up on a horse farm in central west NSW and was a competitive horse rider most of my life!
