In this edition of the Colony Blog, we sit down with the General Manager of our Australian operations and Director of Strategy, Clinton White. Clinton has been part of the Colony Group management team for more than three years but has worked with principals Matt McCarthy and Katelyn Woolley in various capacities across the last two decades. Let’s find out more about why Clinton chose Colony Group and what drives him.
How did you choose this career path?
I actually started my career in the Travel and Tourism industry 27 years ago as a retail travel agent and migrated to marketing and communications about 15 years ago. Having specialised in travel and tourism for so long, it’s great to now be working across many other industry segments leveraging the same principles.
What’s your role in the Brisbane office?
Mostly babysitting (kidding) – feeding and watering and generally keeping our team motivated to perform! Aside from people management, I lead the charge in strategy development for our clients, direct traffic and avoid choosing the office Spotify playlist.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
Every day is completely different, bringing new challenges, new successes and new learnings. The variety of clients and people we get to work with in PNG and Australia keeps it interesting. Our team is second to none which makes for an enjoyable experience.
What do you do outside of work?
My partner and I love to be out and about on weekends exploring our amazing state, finding new places to eat and hidden gems. We also like a good antique store and a decent market.
Too many food options to choose from that are favourites, so let’s go with spicy! Any top-shelf gin or a dry cab sav to wash it down.
Favourite part about living in Brisbane?
It’s hard to beat our beautiful winters here… Brisbane is also becoming so much more of a sophisticated city in many ways.
What part of your job gets you the most excited?
The potential to work with new clients in new industries. We have such a broad range now and that’s what makes it exciting.
What’s your dream job (besides this one)?
My dream job is still to compose music for film.
Tell us something about you that no one would ever guess just by looking at you.
I’ve had dinner with Ronan Keating, Champagne with Nicole Kidman and several wines with Richard Branson…oh, and I’m a bit of namedropper!
