The Colony Group team is delighted to welcome Tabitha to our Port Moresby office. She’ll be working across all Colony Group clients as an account manager. In this instalment of The Colony Blog, we get to know a little bit about Tabitha and why she chose Colony Group!
1. Why/how did you choose this career path?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an eye for writing. But little did I know that contributing a piece to Air Niugini’s in-flight magazine at age 20 was my foot in the door to a career in sales and marketing.
2. What was attractive to you about joining the Colony Group team?
The company logo. The first ever print job I put through for Colony back when I was at my previous job as a sales representative was a Colony Group portfolio. I can clearly remember the details of that job. 40 company portfolios were urgently required. Deadline: the next day. It kept me on my toes, but what stood out for me was the clean, minimalist style of the Colony logo and the layout of artwork…different to the norm here in PNG. So, to work for Colony Group is a dream come true.
3. What will you be doing in the Port Moresby office?
Basically, taking care of Colony’s Port Moresby clients, including media buying, tending to customer and client queries, leading promotions and campaigns.
4. What’s your favourite part of your job and career?
I like that frontline work like this gives me the opportunity to build my network as a young professional.
5. What do you do outside of work? What are you passionate about?
If I am not working, I am at home cooking. I come from a family of great home cooks – both mothers and fathers. Even though I dreaded cooking when I was younger because it was more like a chore, as I got older it became fun. Now I have the choice as to what we have for dinner and what to buy from the grocery stores. I look up delicious dishes online (YouTube/Instagram) and cook for my partner Geoff and his Mum.
6. Favourite movie?
Hands down, my favourite movies are Home Alone part I and II. I can recite every bit of dialogue when watching.
7. Favourite part about living in PNG?
Second-hand shopping. The quality of the brands and styles you can get here in PNG are unbelievable! I go to the second hands every other weekend. I also hear from some expats that thrift markets here in PNG are the best.
8. What part of your job gets you the most excited?
I have only just started in my new role but so far, there is nothing more exciting than submitting a brief and seeing it translate into actual artwork.
9. What’s your dream job (besides this one, ha!)?
Author. I’d love to write children’s story books.
10. Tell us something about you that no one would ever guess just by looking at you.
I have 10 siblings. Seven of which are half siblings – six boys and 5 girls, including myself.
